I have no idea where the name comes from for this recipe and I know it is sometimes made with sausage but I was brought up on this “mince” version. You end up with a big lumpy potato dish that is filling and very inexpensive!
Wot u need
500g lean steak minced beef – “mince”
2 medium carrots
1 medium onion
3 baking potatoes
2 tbsp vegetable oil
Salt and pepper
Wot u do
Pour the oil into a pot and add the mince. Slowly brown the mince for five minutes till no pink mince remains. During this time constantly bash the mince about to break it down into granular bits. Cut the onion into small bits and the carrots into slices and add to the mince. Season, cover and simmer for 1 hr. Meanwhile cut and boil the potatoes.
Mash the spuds and add the hot mince mixture making sure you drain it – this dish requires no “wetness” or gravy.
Serves three – can be frozen. Serve with bread and butter and lashings of Heinz tomato ketchup.
