Ranch Chilli

This is a play on chilli con carne but uses baked beans rather than kidney beans and it really works well – it will become a house midweek favourite for sure.

Wot u need
500g lean steak minced beef
1 onion finely chopped
2 tsp garlic paste
1 400g tin chopped tomatoes
1 200g packet passatta
1 glass red wine
Water
2 bay leaves
3 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp salt
Pepper
1 400g tin baked beans (Heinz)
2 tbsp vegetable oil

Wot u do
Chop the onion finely and fry till translucent with the garlic for five minutes. Add the minced beef and cook till brown. Add chilli powder, cumin powder and cook off for 2 mins. Add tomatoes, passatta, wine and bay leaves and mix. Use empty tomato tin and fill 3/4 with cold water and add. Boil and reduce to a simmer, cover and cook for 1 hr at very low until quite thick – stir every 10 mins. Add baked beans, heat and serve with rice, pitta bread and chopped chillis!!!!

Brilliant! Serves 4.
