Slow cooked beef stew

This is a great recipe that can be stuck on before you go to work – eight hours later it’s bloomin great! All this rubbish about cheap cuts of beef – they all come off the same animal!!!!

Wot u need

500g stewing steak
1 onion chopped
2 carrots chopped
4 big mushrooms quartered
2 baking potatoes cubed – 2cms
4 heaped tsp Bisto gravy powder (or three oxo at start then 1 dessertspoon cornflour mixed with three tbsp water added 2 hours into cooking)
Salt and pepper

Wot u do
Layer the bottom of the crock pot with the cut up veg (not the potatoes) then add the stewing steak then finally the potatoes. Mix the Bisto with 1.5 good sized mugs of cold water and chuck in. Add salt and pepper. Cook for 8 hours on low.

Serve with bread and butter or with puff pastry to make a steak and potato pie.

Serves four.
