Ham hock and yellow pea soup

There are so many products on the market that “mimic” original ingredients. This soup uses the original in terms of a smoked ham hock – a very cheap cut of pork available from your butcher. This soup is a treat! A classic.

Wot u need
One smoked ham hock
1 cup yellow split peas
1 large onion finely chopped
2 large carrots grated
2 tsp salt
Pepper
1.5 ltrs hot water

Wot u do
Soak the peas overnight. Add all the ingredients in a pot, bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 1.5 hrs. Remove the ham hock and shred bits from it, adding ot back into the soup. You could blitz the soup before adding the hock at the end if you choose.

Easily serve 4 – great on day two!
